EYG’s Covid-19 Secure Installations Policy and Processes – Keeping customers safe | EYG

The Covid-19 pandemic has changed the way we do almost everything in life – and that means everybody at EYG Home Improvements will now work in a very different way to protect our customers and our staff whilst continuing to provide the same excellent products and service.
We are delighted to say that we are fully compliant with the Government’s guidance on returning to work and managing the risk of Covid-19.
This means we can assure all homeowners that your health and safety will always be the highest priority when you turn to us for any home improvement project, from windows and doors to conservatories and orangeries.
Government guidance says that tradespeople can now return to peoples’ homes, providing they are well and have no symptoms of Covid-19.
As we return to working in customers’ homes, we can assure all that we;
- Are operating according to Government Health and Safety guidelines and have briefed our employees on procedures which must be followed
- Have valid insurance cover under which terms and conditions comply with the latest Government guidance
- Will always carry out a thorough Health and Safety Risk Assessment for the work in your home or on the land around your property
- Will ensure all company representatives are provided with appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), meeting Government guidelines
Below is our guidance to ensure a safe home improvement installation with EYG.
What should a homeowner consider before EYG workers arrive at their home?
As stated earlier, the primary consideration before any work is carried out now is preventing any spread of illness and risk of Covid-19. Therefore we now ask all customers to consider carefully the risk – to themselves and to our staff – of having workmen in the home.
In the vast majority of circumstances work will be able to be carried out and completed without concern, as numerous measures will be taken to maintain social distance and reduce risk.
However, if there is anybody living in your home with any underlying health conditions, or any sick or elderly people living in the property who could be at greater risk, we must be informed so that we can plan our work and carry out a full health and safety risk assessment of the job.
In many situations a solution will be able to be found whereby people who are unwell or elderly can be isolated from our workmen when we are on site.
In some circumstances, however, we may have to advise that we are not able to carry out the installation safely.
If there is anyone with symptoms of Covid-19 living in your home our teams must be made aware.
No work should be carried out in any household which is isolating or where an individual is being shielded, unless the work is to remedy a direct risk to the safety of the household, such as an emergency glazing or repair.
What should I expect EYG staff and fitters to do when arriving at my home?
You will always be notified in advance of when our team will be visiting your home to carry out an installation.
Please feel free ask or staff questions about our approach to working in your home and to confirm that they have been briefed on health and safety awareness and the Government guidance.
It is important to us at EYG that your feel happy and comfortable with the people we send to work at your home.
Our fitting teams have been instructed to ensure they maintain a safe distance of two metres from all household occupants, at all times.
When entering your home, our staff should wash their hands using soap and water for 20 seconds. Where facilities to wash hands are not available, hand sanitiser should be used, which our teams will be carrying with them.
Our team will need to use separate towels or paper towels, which need to be washed or disposed of safely after use.
How will we ensure work is carried out as safely as possible and within Covid-19 Secure guidelines?
We will at all times be working to our ‘Covid-19 Secure Policy’ which sets out how we maintain safe standards of working both at our own premises and when at customers’ homes.
Where more than one person is required to complete the installation, we will ensure the same people work together at your home throughout the project and until completion (unless one of the team has to be replaced due to unavoidable circumstances).
We have instructed our teams to ensure good ventilation in the area where they are working, including opening windows.
Importantly, our staff must be aware of the areas of your home where they can enter or not. It is important that our team know from the outset which parts of your property are prohibited.
When working internally we will use coverings (dust sheets) which will be laid out and in some cases taped to the skirting.
Our teams will clean down all surfaces they have handled or installed with disinfectant at the end of each day, including cleaning any new window or door frames and any glass/seals or beading. They will also make the working area safe at the end of each day.
As much as our customers often like to look after our staff when they are at their homes – and the generosity is always appreciated – our employees will not be able to accept any food or drink offered to them and will bring their own refreshments.
They will eat away from your property, either in a work van or outside.
Tradespeople should wash their hands regularly, particularly after blowing their noses, sneezing or coughing, and when leaving the property.
Will EYG fitting teams be wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)?
Our installation teams have always worn PPE in some scenarios as it is needed for the job they are undertaking.
As yet we have not been instructed that it is a must to wear PPE in all situations, but our teams will be wearing gloves and masks. They often wear protective footwear, hard hats, goggles or visors.
We will of course fully understand if you insist that our staff are wearing both gloves and masks at all times when inside your home
It is therefore advisable not to touch any PPE or other materials that are being used for your home improvement until the job has been completed and all surfaces have been thoroughly cleaned with soap and water or chemical cleaners.
