Curtain Walling

Curtain walling is increasingly sought-after in domestic properties where architects and house builders are wanting to create striking designs using large expanses of glass.

If you are designing or building a house where floor-to-ceiling windows are required – curtain walling is a great option.

Non-load-bearing and able to cover large areas, it creates a dramatic and eye-catching effect for larger domestic properties.

Curtain walling can span two or more floors and go right up to the roof ridge – creating a light-filled property with a truly bespoke luxury feel.

FAQs

What is curtain walling?

A curtain wall is a structure in a house or commercial building that is constructed from an aluminium frame and glazed.

It allows large expanses of space to be glazed, which is very sought-after in contemporary houses which are made up of more glass than bricks on some elevations.

Can curtain walling be used on domestic properties?

Yes, curtain walling used to be just reserved for commercial buildings, but is now increasingly seen in the domestic glazing sector.

Thanks to home design TV programmes such as Channel Four’s Grand Designs, curtain walling has risen dramatically in popularity as self-builders are drawn to its ability to provide floor-to-ceiling glazing for modern homes.

Curtain walling is perfect for larger, contemporary properties, where architects want to create a real show-stopping design incorporating large expanses of glass over one or more floors.

Are curtain walls safe?

Yes, curtain walls are safe as they are attached to the building’s exterior and are non-load bearing so do not put any extra pressure on a building’s structure.

Curtain walls are weather resistant so make a strong and secure option for weather-proofing a building, and they are also highly thermal efficient.

EYG’s curtain walling has A-rated glass as standard.

Only experienced and trusted installers should be used for installing curtain walling as it is not the easiest installation – however, EYG teams have been installing curtain walling on our commercial projects for many years, making us safe, reliable and trusted tradesmen for this specialist work.

I wanted to replace my conseratory glass roof with a new tiled one with two glass roof lights and thick insulation, so it would be cooler in summer and warmer in winter. I visited their showroom in Febuary and was impressed with their roofs on offer, spoke with manager who was so helpful and came and priced it the following day. Survey done the next week and agreed price . It was planned for a June start date. Alan and Kev came on 16th June to start the job, they are brothers and did a excellent job and nothing was any trouble for them when asked which is nice to see these days. The roof looks great and now the inside is plastered, just needs decorating. Well done to all concerned.

EYG are a very professional business who do excellent work. Their tradesmen are very good at what they do and always friendly and helpful. We have no complaints about the service that we had from start to finish of the build and would recommend EYG to anyone

Brandon and Owen turned up by 0900 made short work of removing the old front door and fitted the new composite door and were away by lunch time clearing up after themselves and leaving no mess. Brilliant.
