FAQs

Learn more about Flush Casement Windows

A flush casement uPVC window is one where the opening pane is held on hinges within a frame, but the opening part does not project out from the frame. Instead, it lies aligned or ‘flush’ with it. A design which has been around for centuries, they are one of the most common UK window styles.

Perfect for historic properties which need to replace rotting or ageing timber flush windows, they boast clean sightlines and a fuss-free finish. With flush casement uPVC windows now virtually indistinguishable from the traditional timber version, forward-thinking planning authorities are open to the idea of using them in conservation areas.

Traditionalists will argue that uPVC windows should never be fitted in a period property. There are a few, very rare properties where this is definitely the case. But for most homes, installing uPVC does make sense. A fantastic long-lasting building material which doesn't warp or rot, flush casement uPVC windows are virtually maintenance free and will improve your home’s energy efficiency.

By paying close attention to every detail and the authentic proportions of traditional timber casements, we have recreated them meticulously in uPVC – ensuring that the window’s mullions, sashes and transoms all align perfectly. Just like the timber originals, the shape is chamfered on the outside to repel the rain and beautifully sculptured on the inside so you can admire its decorative shape. Although they do not lock in the night vent position, they do have multi-point locks for added security. But the best thing is they come with added thermal and acoustic insulation and there’s also no need for regular repainting.

Hand crafted and available in a wide range of colour finishes, our flush casement uPVC windows come with a ten-year warranty and will look just as charming as a timber original.

How safe and secure are flush casement windows?

Fitted with multi-point locks and 24mm double glazing as standard, these windows look authentic and are highly secure. Thanks to their egress hinges, which allow the window to open fully, they can also act as the perfect escape route if ever there was an emergency.

How energy efficient are they?

Made using multichambered sections to maximise the insulating qualities of the PVC-U from which they are made, flush casement windows will help your home maintain a comfortable temperature all year round. Long-life weather seals will reduce draughts to prevent your property from feeling cold and damp, even if it is a traditional or period home.

The exact energy efficiency of each unit depends on the overall glass to frame ratio and your specific dimensions, but it will offer fantastic 21st century levels of insulation.

Are flush casement windows suitable for conservation areas and period homes?

If you live in a period property which has listed status or lies in a conservation area, there is no definitive answer as to whether you will be allowed to use PVC-U windows to renovate your home. Ultimately, that decision will be made by your planning authority. But, unlike a few years ago, forward-thinking planners are much more open to idea of using flush casement uPVC windows because they are now virtually indistinguishable from timber.

Marcelle Finch, September 2025

I recently had a set of French Doors & two windows fitted by EYG, and I am over the moon with the workmanship and installation. The quality is exceptional, and I would highly recommend their services. One aspect I found particularly reassuring was that there was no pressure to order a minimum number of units. For instance, following my initial purchase, I have just ordered a new back door. I then plan to replace the upstairs windows early next year, followed by the two large bay windows later on in the year. There were no pushy salesman pitches! I highly recommend EYG :)

Just had EYG do my mums bungalow windows, this is the 3rd house to be completed by them with me, they never fail to deliver, from the choosing to the fitting I cannot fault them. They are very professional, give a great competitive price, the windows themselves are excellent quality. The day of the fitting they arrived on time as .confirmed, and the fitters did an excellent job, their finish was superb. Thankyou! Definitely recommend this local company.
