Skypod glass roof brings the light into re-vamped kitchen

This family opted to bring the sunshine in when they decided to install a Skypod glass roof into their flat roofed kitchen extension.

Light now floods the whole area after the Skypod was installed directly above the dining table - adding a sense of height and a great focal point to the room.

They also replaced their old French doors with new white UPVC French doors, and added a window to the kitchen for extra light and ventilation.

Why did they choose a Skypod roof?

The family, from East Yorkshire, were re-designing their entire kitchen and wanted to make the dark area feel much more spacious and airy.

The home owner said: "By adding the glass roof, it opened up the whole area and made it feel bigger. It looks really beautiful, by day we enjoy the views of the blue skies and the area is so much brighter, and then at night we can see the moon and stars, it is transformational."

What did we do?

The Skypod was made-to-measure and provides great thermal efficiency; we also manufactuired new French doors to replace the existing doors which were dated and draughty. The couple also chose to create a new opening in the external kitchen wall for a double glazed window - which not only provides great light but also ventilation for all the cooking smells.

What did they think of the final result?

The home owner said: "We couldn't be more thrilled. By re-designing the kitchen we have a far more sociable space, but the Skypod has made it feel so much more luxurious and stylish. We could have just re-done the kitchen and left it there, but by adding the Skypod roof, we've really got the 'wow' factor in our home now and everyone who has visited has commented about how incredible our kitchen/dining area looks now, we couldn't be happier."
