EYG's charitable Golf Day raises thousands for charity

7th August 2016

Hull businesses have raised £13,000 for the HEY Smile Foundation from a sell-out golf day.

EYG's Golf Day raised thousands of pounds for the HEY Smile Foundation charity in Hull, East Yorkshire.

EYG hosted The Golf Day at Hull Golf Club, with associate sponsors Arrival Design, MKM, Hugh Rice Jewellers, and Santander.

It was the sixth consecutive year that the event took place, and organisers said they are “thrilled” with the amount raised, which will go to The Vault, which is run by Smile.

The Vault supports over 500 local charities in the area by hiring out equipment most charities do not have the money to buy or the space to store.

The total amount raised by The Golf Day in the past six years now stands at £53,000.

Andy Barber, charity manager at the Smile Foundation, said: “A lot of hard work is put into the event by the Smile team, our partners EYG, MKM, Santander, Hugh Rice and Arrival, alongside the Hull Golf Club team, to ensure the team have a first class experience.

“This year was no exception, and we are thrilled with the amount raised, which will make a real difference to the charities that will benefit, through The Vault.

“The Golf Day is an opportunity to celebrate the work of the Smile Foundation and highlight the projects in which we are able to deliver thanks to the generosity of events like this.”

The funds from last year’s event went towards helping to set up Hull’s first ever Men In Sheds, a project which sees men brought together to socialise and share skills, and is aimed at combating loneliness and depression among men.

Mr Barber added: “In the past few years the partners and a number of the teams have then gone on to engage with our projects beyond just the financial donations. This was the case in 2015 when the funds raised were utilised to support the first ever Men in Sheds Hull, and in part thanks to The Golf Day and its partners they now have a great facility and 46 members in their first six months of operation.”

EYG’s Managing Director Nick Ward said The Golf Day is their flagship fundraising event of the year and he is delighted with its success.

“It’s no easy task to arrange a charity event for six consecutive years that keeps attracting people back year after year, but The Golf Day is an exception.

“We are always a sell-out and the feedback we get from those taking part is fantastic. By partnering with Smile, we know our money is being put to great use within the community, and its effects are felt far and wide, and we look forward to working with them on next year’s event.”

The winning team for the second year running was Vapor Ricon Europe, and the winning individual was Gary Pepper of Arrival Design.
