EYG steps in to complete dream home extension after couple lose £11,500 after TWO building firms collapse

A Hessle family who twice fell victim to building companies who went bankrupt – losing money both times – are finally getting their dream home extension after EYG completed their transformation project.
Darren Kendrew, a training manager, handed over £3,500 deposit for a new flat roof extension to a Hull building company last year, only for the business to go into liquidation.
While still waiting for his refund via the firm’s receivers, he decided to carry on with his home renovation, and enlisted a new building company to carry out the work in demolishing an existing conservatory and building the new extension.
Yet, in a twist of fate that he could barely believe, that firm also went into liquidation shortly afterwards, and Mr Kendrew lost £8,000 deposit.
Having now reclaimed half of that, after his bank intervened, he decided to brave a third attempt at securing his dream home and contacted EYG.
Having now less money to spend on what he initially wanted, he scaled back the project and yet remains thrilled with what EYG was able to build within his budget.
Mr Kendrew, who lives in Hessle, east Yorkshire, was still able to have his old, draughty conservatory removed, but instead of the original flat roof extension with lantern roof he had wanted, our Hull sales manager Jeremy recommended a new conservatory rather than a more costly full brick extension, which used the existing footings.
He also recommended a solid tiled ‘Hybrid’ roof, insulated walls and flooring, and cladding on the outside of the conservatory to give it the appearance and energy efficiency of an extension.
Now complete, Mr Kendrew said he is thrilled with the development and the “brilliant” efforts of EYG staff to deliver his home transformation on time and in budget.
“It has been heartbreaking losing our money and we are still trying to get some of it back.
“EYG were a little bit dearer, but we wanted to make sure this time we were going to get it done.
“We couldn’t afford what we originally wanted anymore, but the conservatory with Hybrid roof is brilliant, it feels like an extension. It has already made a massive difference with the temperature of the house, as the old one needed heating on full-time, and we didn’t want another winter heating it, with energy bills going up.
“We’ve also noticed a big difference with the sound-proofing and can’t hear a thing outside when the windows and doors are shut.”
EYG’s bricklayers removed an existing wall to open up the kitchen and levelled the floor between the kitchen and new conservatory, to create one free-flowing space, which is now the hub of the home, as a kitchen and living room.
The work took ten days to complete and Mr Kendrew said he is thrilled with the finished result.
“It will make a big impact on our family life,” he said.
“It has been brilliant dealing with EYG, given what we went through, they stepped in at a time when we were beginning to think it was never going to happen.”
