EYG founder wins business award at glittering ceremony
11th July 2023
EYG’s founder James Bingham was recognised at the People in Business Awards 2023 when he was presented with the Judges Recognition award.
James, or Jim as he is known, was recognized for 53 years’ service in the industry, having founded EYG in 1973 from his small terraced house.
It has grown beyond all comprehension, having turned over in excess of £650m since it started, and now employing people across three counties.
With domestic, trade and commercial divisions – the business is now a key industry players nationwide – something that Jim could never ever dreamt of happening when he started it over five decades ago.
Now, as recognition of his extraordinary achievements, Jim joins a Who’s Who of award winners in East Yorkshire who have received accolades for their business achievements.
The award was given at a glittering ceremony held at Hull’s Double Tree Hilton Hotel in June, which was attended by representatives of some of the city’s biggest businesses, and sponsored by the likes of Hull City Council, Hull University’s Business School, and Hull Bondholders.
Jim’s category was the penultimate award of the night, and he was delighted and shocked when he heard his name called.
The award recognized a lifetime commitment to business, and Jim said afterwards: “It is very humbling to receive this award and I didn’t expect it at all. I am thrilled to bits, it’s a lovely thing to receive.”
Jim was secretly nominated by the company’s marketing department, who felt his lifelong efforts should be publicly acknowledged.
Jim, who shies away from the limelight, was shocked to hear he had been shortlisted and took some persuading to attend the awards reception.
However, afterwards, he said: “It has been a brilliant night and I am so glad we came. It has been a superbly-organised event, and receiving the award was the cherry on the cake. It really does mean a lot. Thank you to People in Business for the accolade.”
EYG’s Managing Director Nick Ward said: “Jim is the grandfather of the business and everyone looks up to him, he has lived and breathed EYG from being a young man, and we were all thrilled to see him win this award.”
The award marks the second success at an awards ceremony for EYG this year.
Earlier this year we scooped the ‘Installer of the Year” award for the best conservatory installation under £35,000, for a project we carried out in Hessle, east Yorkshire.
The award was given at the national GG Installer awards.
