Learn more about Flat Roof Lights

Designed to sit completely flush with the internal plaster line, fixed flat roof lights appear to be frameless from the interior of your home - creating the illusion of an open roof space.

As one of nature's most impressive free resources, the role light plays in interior design should never be underestimated. Installing flat roof lights will allow you to take full advantage of the feel-good factor it creates.

Often referred to as flat roof windows, their modern design is a fantastic alternative for anyone who wants a lighter living space but doesn't like traditional roof lanterns. With no supporting bars, you'll definitely see more of the stars!

Carefully constructed to have almost no exterior visual impact, their ultra-low profile will keep both your neighbours and local planning authority happy. Although glass rooflights for flat roofs boast almost no elevation from the roof, they do not suffer from water pooling and their five-degree pitch achieves excellent rainwater run-off.

FAQs

How thermally efficient are flat roof lights?

Made from aluminium and available in standard toughened double-glazed panes (6mm glass, 16mm gas, 6mm glass), flat roof lights offer exceptional thermal performance with an overall U Values of 1.3 w/mk (double glazing and frame). Their internal PVCu core is also an excellent insulating property.

What colours are they available in?

Whilst they are available in standard white, grey, black, grey on white and black on white; the most significant benefit of installing aluminium flat roof lights is the vast number of colours compared to their PVCu equivalent. Because the latest powder coating processes allow aluminium to be treated in any RAL colour, you can now choose from more than 200 shades - all of which are guaranteed for ten years.

What glass options are there?

All flat rooflights come fitted with active neutral self-cleaning glass as standard, which will help you keep it looking cleaner for longer. The 28mm insulated double glazing, which has an argon gas-filled cavity, is also highly energy efficient and will control the amount of visible light, UV rays and heat which passes through the panes. This prevents your room from being too cold in winter and too hot in summer.

What sizes do they come in?

Manufactured and kitemarked to BS EN 1279-2 and toughened to BS EN 12150-1 as standard, they come in three ready-to-install sizes: 1000mm x 1000mm (40kg weight), 1000mm x 1500mm (57kg weight) and 1000mm x 2000mm (75kg weight). We can also manufacture flat roof lights in bespoke sizes, depending on your requirements.

Can a flat glass roof light be installed completely flush?

Thanks to its narrow internal sightlines and soft PVCu finishing, there is no need for visible bonded silicone. This means our installers can create a perfectly neat sightline by plastering right up to the flat roof light itself. Externally, a full aluminium outer trim provides almost no elevation from the roof itself to create an optimum contemporary sightline.

What type of property is a flat roof light best suited to?

Boasting unrivalled looks and thermal performance, these flat roof windows have been designed to throw maximum light into a room. Whilst its minimalistic roof frame is suitable for any style of home, it would be a particularly stunning addition to an extension. It is also a fantastic alternative for those who don't want a traditional lantern, perhaps in an orangery or garage conversion.

Do flat roof lights come with a guarantee?

All flat roof lights come with a ten-year seal and easy clean coating manufacturer's warranty as standard. As a respected home improvement company which has been trading since 1970, we also provide a ten-year warranty on installation work. Should you move house during that time, this warranty can pass on to the new home owner to add value to your home and provide complete peace of mind.
